John Roberts

The latest news on John Roberts. The chief justice of the United States since 2005, Roberts was nominated to the Supreme Court by former President George W. Bush in 2005. Initially appointed as an associate justice to fill the seat vacated by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement, Bush withdrew that nomination after the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist and instead nominated Roberts for Chief Justice. Before the Supreme Court, Roberts served as Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2003 to 2005. He has also served as Principal Deputy Solicitor General of the United States in the administration of former President George H.W. Bush.
