Born October 26, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, Clinton married Bill Clinton in 1975 and had her only daughter, Chelsea, in 1980. She became first lady when Bill was elected president in 1992. In 2000 she became the first first lady to be elected to political office, successfully winning the U.S. Senate seat from New York. In 2008 she unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic nomination for president, losing to Barack Obama. She would later serve as secretary of state in the Obama administration. In 2016 she became the first woman in U.S. history to win her party's nomination for president. She would later lose the election to Donald Trump, who won the presidency by winning a majority of the electoral college over Clinton carrying the popular vote.
