About Newsweek

Overview
Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years.

Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

Newsweek's biggest source of revenue is advertising, with additional revenue from subscriptions, rankings businesses, affiliate businesses, sponsored content—which is always clearly identified as such—and syndication to other news platforms.
History
Newsweek was launched in 1933 by Thomas J.C. Martyn. Soon becoming one of the "big three" of weekly news magazines, Newsweek brought the news to life with photographs, signed columns, and analysis to people across America and later across the globe.

Newsweek was owned by the Washington Post Company between 1961 and 2010, when it was sold to audio mogul and philanthropist Sidney Harman.

In 2011, Newsweek merged with The Daily Beast, owned by the diversified internet company IAC.

IAC sold Newsweek in 2013 to IBT Media. Later, in 2018, current Newsweek President and Chief Executive Officer Dev Pragad purchased a 50 percent stake in Newsweek. The other IBT Media principal, Johnathan Davis, retained his half of the company and became a silent partner, no longer to be involved in the management of Newsweek.
